A sequel to the “The Grudge” hits theaters tomorrow, January 3, and it’s creepier than ever.

It’s been 15 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar was haunted by the demonic spirit in 2004’s” The Grudge” and now a trailer for the similarly-titled reboot of the franchise has arrived to make sure your showers are even more frightening.

Transporting the storyline from Japan to the United States, the clip starts out as a realtor (John Cho) arrives to see a new listing and quickly finds the dimly lit estate is populated by a frightening entity in the bathtub.

Amid disturbing throat sounds and quick cuts of menacing apparitions, he contacts a local detective (Andrea Riseborough) to investigate what exactly it was that he saw in the house. Turns out there was a brutal murder in the home which enacts a curse whenever “someone dies in the grip of rage.”

The curse then begins to follow anyone who enters the home and leads to even more frights, eery images and an awful lot of sinister looking hair. The final scene of the trailer will have you second guessing whether to wash your hair or not.

Fans of earlier films in the franchise can expect the same thrills but with an entirely new storyline.

“In today’s age where we’re remaking everything, I thought it would be fun to dive into “The Grudge” universe where we don’t have to remake anything, but rather a new chapter in this canon,” the film’s director Nicolas Pesce previously told Entertainment Weekly.

Based on the Japanese “Ju-On” series, the 2004 American version was directed by “Ju-On” creator Takashi Shimizu and starred Gellar, Bill Pullman and Jason Behr. The film was a financial success earning over $187 million worldwide.

The 2006 sequel, “The Grudge 2,” saw the return of Gellar to the franchise along with the addition of Amber Tamblyn.

In 2009, “The Grudge 3” was released straight-to-DVD with an entirely new cast.

Unfortunately, “The Grudge” fans won’t be able to watch all three films before the reboot as the first film is not available to buy, rent or stream anywhere.

However, you can rent or buy “The Grudge 2” and rent or buy “The Grudge 3” for $3.99 and $7.99 respectively on Amazon.

While Gellar does not appear in this new iteration, the reboot is said to take place during the same timeline as the 2004 film.

Along with Cho and Riseborough, “The Grudge” features “Glow” star Betty Gilpin and Oscar nominees Demián Bichir and Jacki Weaver.
