Sorry, nothing in cart.
The Liga MX Clausura Final is on the second leg after a thrilling initial go-around on Thursday night. Tigres took full advantage of their home stadium, netting an early goal and holding on for the remainder of the match. If they can hold Leon scoreless tonight, Tigres will lift the trophy. Should they fail to outscore Leon, a long summer awaits.
Club Leon rebounded from a dismal Apertura season, in which they finished 14th, to top the table this spring with 41 points. Veteran Angel Mena joined Los Verdiblancos from Cruz Azul in January and led Liga MX with 14 goals. However, despite being the league’s leading scorer, he’s yet to find the back of the net during the playoffs. They’ll surely need him to find his scoring touch if a reward is to be had for a great season.
On the other side, it’s been an up and down for star-studded Tigres. Their second-place finish in the regular season is nothing to scoff at, but losing the CONCACAF Champions League final to Monterrey could have manager Ricardo Ferretti in hot water. Losing two finals in a short span would not be positive for fans.
Due to Liga MX’s unusual tiebreakers, Tigres are already at a disadvantage. They need to win the tie outright. If they are tied on aggregate at the end of 180 minutes, Leon will be champions due to finishing higher in the table. They’ll need all of their high-priced firepower to be on their game.
