‘Cobra Kai’ delivers even bigger kicks in second season
  • By michael@cvcteam.com

“Cobra Kai” was such a pleasant surprise as to invite skepticism whether this long-delayed “The Karate Kid” sequel could do it again. But Season 2 of the YouTube series is, if anything, better than the first — a teen soap, largely, which also packs a wryly nostalgic kick.

Part of that has to do with the arrival of original bad guy Martin Kove, who popped up in the first-season finale and slides back into the role of Kreese as if no time has passed at all.

Police arrested YNW Melly and another man, Cortlen Henry, in February, charging them with two counts of murder.

It’s about time climate change became the subject of a blockbuster anthem — we just didn’t expect a guy called “Lil Dicky” to bring it to us. Yet the comedy-rapper, who has built up a YouTube following of more than 4 million subscribers with a collection of absurdist viral videos and so-stupid-they’re-brilliant lyrics, has somehow assembled a bevy of big-name stars, from Ariana Grande to Justin Bieber, for an Earth Day-themed charity single accompanied by a seven-minute animated short film.

“HOME”

BTS’ new album, MAP OF THE SOUL : PERSONA, nabbed over 3 million pre-orders, and the music video for lead single “Boy With Luv” is on track to set world records for its already-impressive view count. (CNN)During Nipsey’s Hussle’s Los Angeles funeral service Thursday, Snoop Dogg remembered the first time Nipsey “pushed up on me with a tape,” trying to get the world-famous Long Beach rapper to listen to his music.

Nipsey told him, “Just give it a listen,” which struck Snoop as odd. Most rappers trying to catch Snoop’s ear talk about making money, but Nipsey didn’t want a handout. He was ready to earn everything he got,

Booming beats. A twanging banjo. Is this country music?

When Lil Nas X, a young black hip-hop artist from Atlanta, created the surprise hit “Old Town Road,” he did not imagine that it would end up at the center of a debate on race, the Nashville establishment and musical genres.

The track marries a beat familiar to hip-hop fans with acoustic sounds and lyrics filled with cowboy imagery. Lil Nas X had no record deal when he made it,

Review: ‘Shazam!’ gives the overworked superhero genre a fun, irreverent lift
  • By michael@cvcteam.com

The Seven Deadly Sins play a prominent role in “Shazam!,” the latest and loosest entertainment from that highly erratic, fitfully enjoyable pop-cultural entity known as the DC Extended Universe. Taking vaporous form as giant CGI gargoyles, the Sins are the evil minions — and masters — of Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong), a glowering villain forged in the crucible of a grievously love-starved childhood. But Sivana meets his match and then some in the bulked-up form of Shazam (Zachary Levi),
