The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones premieres on HBO Sunday night

Breaking up is hard to do – especially if you’re Kit Harington leaving behind Jon Snow.

The Game of Thrones star got sentimental as he discussed moving on from his beloved character, and revealed that Snow will forever have a place in his heart.

“Thrones, it’s given me possibly my future family. It’s given me my wife, it’s given me friends for life. It’s got a character I love, I will love, more than any other character I’ll ever play,” Harington told Willie Geist on Sunday Today.

There never will be and I think that comes back to the question of, ‘How do you feel now that it’s finishing?’ Well, there aren’t words to describe how I feel about it,” he said.

The British actor has played Jon Snow, whom he praised as a “dogged warrior,” since 2011.

Harington, 32, met wife Rose Leslie on the show’s set, and the couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Scotland last year.

“It happens that we met in the show, and we’ve always tried not to be defined by that a bit,” the star told Geist. “It’s just a job we met on. And I think once the show finishes, we get to kind of break free of it a bit and just be us, which is a really nice feeling.”

Though the Game of Thrones cast has been sworn to secrecy regarding the upcoming eighth and final season, Harington told Geist he’s pleased with the way things wrap.

“I’m satisfied with how they finished my storyline, the storyline of Thrones,” he said. “But you cannot satisfy everyone.”

The actor has made it clear he’ll always love Jon Snow, though Harington acknowledged in a recent interview with Variety he wasn’t entirely satisfied with his own performance.

“Looking back at the entirety of Thrones, there’ll be 70 percent of the scenes that I’ll just never be happy with. I’ve come to terms with that,” he said. “I know who this is now, and I’m at peace with who this is. I just got a feeling that it’s not the most satisfied I will be with my work as Jon Snow.”

Harington also explained why he prefers not to read reviews, which at times dismissed Snow as a “boring” character.

“My memory is always ‘the boring Jon Snow.’ And that got to me after a while because I was like, ‘I love him. He’s mine and I love playing him,’” Harington said. “Some of those words that were said about it stuck in my craw about him being less entertaining, less showy.”

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO
