That Invisible String has officially been cut.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have reportedly broken up after nearly six years of dating.

Entertainment Tonight first reported the split on Saturday, and alleged that the two ended things “a few weeks ago.” The outlet reported that the split was “not dramatic” and that “the relationship had just run its course.”

Taylor and Joe have not confirmed the breakup.

When the Grammy-winning superstar kicked off her highly-anticipated Eras Tour last month, Joe was noticeably absent from the crowd. ET confirmed that the break-up was the reason the British actor hadn’t attended any of her shows.

Taylor, 33, and Joe, 32, started dating in 2016 and have famously kept their relationship private. The pair were rumored to be engaged (or possibly married), but neither ever confirmed that to be true. In an interview with WSJ Magazine last year, Joe remained tight-lipped about whether they were planning to walk down the aisle or not.

“I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say,” Joe told the magazine.

While fans have speculated over the years that many of Taylor’s songs are about Joe, Taylor confirmed that “Lavender Haze” from her most recent album, Midnights, was, in fact, inspired by her relationship.

In an Instagram video posted in October before the album’s release, Taylor said she wrote “Lavender Haze” about their romance after learning the phrase from an episode of Mad Men.

“I guess, theoretically, when you’re in the lavender haze you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud,” Taylor said at the time. “Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”

Joe has been credited under the pseudonym William Bowery on multiple Taylor songs over the years, including on five tracks from Taylor’s 2020 albums, folklore, and evermore. He was also credited for “Sweet Nothing” on Midnights.

Now that the two have split up, Swifties are anticipating an extremely sad break-up album.
