Former UFC champ Conor McGregor was charged with two felonies after an altercation with a fan early Monday morning, according to the Miami Beach police.

McGregor allegedly “slapped” a phone out of a man’s hand. The fan had attempted to take the 30-year-old Irish fighter’s picture outside of a Miami Beach nightclub around 5 a.m. Monday.

McGregor then allegedly stomped on the mobile phone several times, according to the police report. McGregor then picked up the smashed phone, valued at $1,000, and walked away. The incident was caught on surveillance cameras and McGregor was arrested later Monday.

“Early this morning Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation involving a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement,” Sam Rabin, McGregor’s attorney, said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports and other outlets. “Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”

McGregor was charged with strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief, both felonies. McGregor faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on both charges.

David S. Weinstein, a Florida attorney who is not representing McGregor, told USA TODAY Sports authorities “loaded him up on the charges when they arrested him.”

“Technically it’s a strong-armed robbery, but in reality it’s more like a battery and a grand theft,” said Weinstein, a former assistant U.S. Attorney and a partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson.

McGregor was booked into Miami’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 7 p.m. ET on Monday, according to online jail records. He was no longer in the inmate database as of 10:30 p.m.

McGregor’s bond was listed as $12,500 total.

The Miami-Herald was first to report the news.

Messages left with UFC by USA TODAY Sports on Monday were not immediately returned.

McGregor was arrested last April and faced multiple charges related to his attack on a bus ahead of a UFC event in Brooklyn. Prosecutors eventually agreed to drop two felonies and other charges as part of a plea deal McGregor agreed to in July.

The plea agreement did not include a probation term.
