Chase Claypool Races into Steelers Record Books with 84-Yard Catch

Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool raced down the left sideline at Heinz Field with an 84-yard touchdown against the Denver Broncos on Sunday and straight into the team’s history books.

Claypool’s touchdown catch from Ben Roethlisberger tied for the fourth-longest reception by a rookie wide receiver in team history. It also stands as the longest reception of the season overall, according to TSN.

JuJu Smith-Schuster holds the Steelers rookie record with a 97-yard reception at Detroit on Oct. 29, 2017, which is also tied with Smith-Schuster’s 97-yard reception in 2018 as the longest overall in team history.

The other rookies with longer pass catches than Claypool’s 84-yarder were Martavis Bryant, who grabbed a 94-yarder from Roethlisberger in 2014 and Dave Smith, who caught an 87-yarder from Terry Bradshaw in 1970.
