The Boston Bruins or St. Louis Blues will win the Stanley Cup at TD Garden on Wednesday night after what promises to be a thrilling Game 7.

The B’s forced this deciding game after an impressive 5-1 win in Game 6 on Sunday night.

This matchup is the first ever Game 7 of a Cup Final played in Boston and the first championship Game 7 in any sport played in Boston since the Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1984 NBA Finals.

The Bruins are aiming for their seventh championship in team history and first Stanley Cup title since 2011 when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks on the road in Game 7.

The Blues are searching for their first championship. St. Louis’ 51-year title drought is the longest of any NHL team before its first championship.

Here’s when and how to watch the Bruins and Blues go head-to-head in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. Be sure to also watch “Hockey Pregame Live” at 7 p.m. ET with Michael Felger and Tony Amonte on NBC Sports Boston, as well as “Hockey Postgame Live” with Felger and Amonte after the game.

The Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues will play at least 60 minutes Wednesday night in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, but recent history shows the team that scores first is going to win.

Scoring first always is a priority, but its importance in Game 7s of the Stanley Cup Final has been particularly interesting. Consider the stat in the tweet below from 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Marc Bertrand.

The last lead change in a Game 7 of a Cup Final came in 1987, when the Philadelphia Flyers scored the opening goal against the Edmonton Oilers, only to give up the next three. There haven’t even been any ties (outside of 0-0, of course) in Game 7s of a Cup Final since 1994.

The Boston Bruins scored first in 2011 when Patrice Bergeron beat Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo in the opening period of Game 7 on the road. The B’s went on to win 4-0 for their sixth championship in team history.

The team to score first owns a 4-2 record in this Cup Final, including four consecutive victories.

Before every home playoff game, the Boston Bruins have a banner captain there to pump up the crowd. Often, this ends up being a legendary Boston athlete or a current athlete that is adored by the fans. And in the lead-up to games, there is a lot of speculation on who the banner captain may be.

Well, on Twitter, a different question was posed ahead of Game 7 between the Bruins and the St. Louis Blues. Who would the worst choice for the banner captain be? Sean McIndoe of The Athletic asked and offered a couple of solid answers: Ray Bourque in a Colorado Avalanche jersey or Bernard Pollard, the safety notorious for making the Kansas City Chiefs tackle on the play that tore Tom Brady’s ACL in 2008.

Luongo, of course, was the goalie for the Vancouver Canucks when the Bruins defeated them in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. Luongo gave up six goals in the final two games of the series against Boston with Vancouver leading the series 3-2. He didn’t even survive the first period in the team’s Game 6 loss in which he surrendered three goals, and he played a major role in Vancouver blowing that lead.

Luongo, currently a member of the Florida Panthers, was obviously joking, but the idea of him standing in front of the TD Garden crowd and waving a Bruins banner is hilarious. In fairness, Luongo was one of the key players for the Bruins in that series. Had he not epically collapsed at the end of it, the team certainly wouldn’t have taken home the Cup. So, in some ways, he is a Bruins legend. Just not in a good way.

We’ll see who the actually banner ends up being. But still, the fact that Luongo volunteered himself as the worst possible choice was pretty great.
