The Patriots lead by Steve Grogan were fighting for a playoff spot and Browns lead rusher Ernest Byner was hurt. I think he still played but wasn’t effective. Everyone inside the 617 area code (there was no 781 or 978 then). As well as most of the national media, figured the Patriots to win an important home game.

Browns back up RB Kevin Mack ran for over a 100 yards that day and New England lost big time. Mack looked like Jim Brown reincarnated on Official Cleveland Browns Club shirt & steroids. He didn’t just run effectively, he ran through and over the New England D line like a grown man playing against a Pop Warner team. There had to be at least a half dozen or more times the box was stacked with a 6 man line, yet Mack plowed through for gains of 7 or more over and over again, dragging Kenneth Sims & Julius Adams with him like they were rag dolls.
