Gillian Heather is a fashion expert with a long term passion for surf and the ocean. Formerly a high street fashion designer, after a career break she plucked up the courage to turn her day job and her love of surfing into a casual collection and Maka Koa was born. “We love the sun, sea, surfing and all things in-between!” she says.

Travelling around this beautiful chain of islands, I saw that surfing is a way of life for many and that connection with the sea is ingrained in the very DNA of Hawaiians.’ Their debut collection features seven designs, each with a vintage surf feel. The graphics have a laid-back beach vibe and each is named after a Hawaiian beach break. As you may have guessed, Maka Koa itself is a Hawaiian word meaning: bold, unafraid, fierce. The T’s are 100% cotton with a soft handle in fresh, clean colours, and designed and printed in the UK. In the future they’ll be developing a European manufacturing supplier to expand the range. They want to make T’s that become true favourites; Memory magnets, worn time and again, reminding us of good times at the beach, relaxing in the sun or just plain hanging-out.

    I wear a womens medium/large, but hate buying women’s athletic tops because they never are long enough on the bottom or they dont fit my breasts. I love these shirts in medium. Only drawback is that the sleeves are too long, but easy fix for me: can sew it.

    I am could all the time during all four seasons. As long as I can have my head and arms covered, I am much warmer. I bought these hoping they were mid-way on the heaviness spectrum and they are perfect. I have a few female long sleeve t-shirts but they are not the length I wanted nor the thickness or heaviness for warmth. These are not as heavy as some of long sleeve shirts I wear outside … nice in the middle. I washed them immediately and did not see any shrinkage. I love them. I wear them mainly under a short sleeve night gown or over shorts. They work well.

    Amazing quality shirts. My husband works outside, so getting him quality clothes is important since work doesn’t prove uniforms These light weight enough that he doesn’t feel confined while he works, but he still stays warm
