CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plans to undergo surgery on the left foot injury that ultimately landed him on injured reserve, interim coach Perry Fewell confirmed Wednesday.

Fewell said Newton would undergo the procedure next week.

Newton aggravated the Lisfranc injury, originally suffered in the third preseason game, in a Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He visited with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson last month,
