NFL quarterback and Montgomery native Tarvaris Jackson dies in auto wreck

A former NFL and Alabama State University quarterback has died following a single-vehicle wreck Sunday night.

State Trooper Michael Carswell said Tarvaris Dandre Jackson, 36, died shortly after 9 p.m. following the wreck near Pike Road.

Jackson was traveling on Pike Road near Antioch Lane, about 7 miles south of Montgomery, when his 2012 Chevrolet Camaro left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned, Carswell said. Jackson was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

XFL suspends operations, lays off employees and has no plans for 2021 season

The XFL suspended operations Friday morning, and multiple sources told ESPN that the league has laid off nearly all of its staff — a handful of executives remain employed — and currently has no plans to return in 2021.

The XFL is owned by WWE CEO/President Vince McMahon and Alpha Entertainment. In a statement, the WWE said: “Given the uncertainty of the current environment, the XFL has suspended operations and is evaluating next steps.”

Parody ‘SportsCenter’ account falsely tweets Colin Kaepernick signed

A Twitter account account under the name “SportsCenter” and the handle @SuperToughScene falsely reported that Colin Kaepernick had been signed by the New York Jets.

The tweet was falsely attributed to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, including the writer’s real handle, @AdamSchefter.

Schefter has not tweeted anything to suggest Kaepernick has been signed.

There is no official reporting from the real SportsCenter account or other verified news sources about any team signing the athlete.

Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant says he has tested positive for coronavirus

Shortly after the Brooklyn Nets announced Tuesday that four players had tested positive for the coronavirus, Kevin Durant said he was one of the four.

While the team did not identify the players in a news release, Durant spoke with The Athletic, saying he feels fine. “Everyone be careful, take care of yourself and quarantine. We’re going to get through this.”

Brooklyn’s announcement brings the NBA’s publicly known cases of players who have tested positive for coronavirus to seven.

Real Madrid have the advantage in the La Liga title race after Sunday’s Clasico, beating Barcelona 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos took control after the break and finally grabbed the lead thanks to a great effort from Vinicius Jr. Barcelona had a few good looks in the first half but regressed during the second, and Mariano Diaz secured the win late.
