The marquee fixture of Matchday 2 of the 2019 UEFA Champions League group stage sees last season’s runner-up square off with a five-time European champion. Tottenham Hotspur welcomes Bayern Munich to north London on Tuesday, October 1 at 3 p.m. EDT (TNT, Galavision; streaming on FuboTV, B/R Live, Watch TNT, Univision NOW) for a contest that could go a long way toward deciding who finishes atop Group B.

After one match, Bayern Munich stands as the only club in Group B holding a full three points following a 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade to open the group. Tottenham, meanwhile, is tied for second on one point after a 2-2 draw with Olympiakos at the always tough Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece.

Bayern not only sits at the top of the Group B table, it also holds a lead in the Bundesliga table at this early point in the season. Die Bayern have 14 points through six matches, four wins and two draws. They enter Tuesday’s match with Tottenham hot off a 3-2 victory over Paderborn last Saturday. Leading the charge for Bayern will striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been deadly in front of goal so far this season. Lewandowski has found the back of the net 11 times through seven appearances in all competitions.

Tottenham has struggled somewhat at the beginning of this new season. On top of the draw against Olympiakos in the Champions League, Spurs are currently sixth in the English Premier League, although they emerged with a 2-1 win over Southampton over the weekend despite playing an hour of the match a man down. They also suffered the worst defeat in England so far this season, losing to League Two side Colchester on penalties a week ago and eliminating them from the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham and Bayern will not be unfamiliar with one another. The two sides squared off in a preseason friendly at the Allianz Arena that finished 2-2 with Tottenham emerging victorious in a penalty shootout. The last time they played in official competition was 36 years ago when Spurs beat Bayern with a 2-1 aggregate score over two legs in the 1983-84 UEFA Cup.

Both sides enter Tuesday’s showdown with a small handful of injuries. Tottenham continue to be without the services of new signings Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon. Bayern will be without Leon Goretzka and Fiete Arp. However, Lucas Hernandez and Ivan Perisic have been cleared to play for Die Bayern.
