Kim Kardashian West is suing a makeover app for $10 million

iHandy Ltd, the company behind makeup app Sweet Cam, was slapped with a hefty lawsuit by Kim Kardashian West this week for $10 million. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is suing the app for using her likeness without permission for promotional purposes – or the “unauthorized use and fraudulent commercial exploitation of Kim Kardashian West’s photograph and worldwide instantly recognizable celebrity persona” in official terms. The lawsuit claims that Sweet Cam took one of West’s own images and “copied, cropped, manipulated and exploited it” in an advertising campaign which shows the beauty mogul’s image (pictured above) being altered through the app. According to WWD, Kim is also “demanding iHandy disclose how much money was earned through the usage of her photo [and] that iHandy cannot use her photos or name going further to promote its app.” Watch this space.

The Friends-themed palette includes 12 shades named after some of the show’s most famous lines. Pivot, is of course, included and is a shimmering pink, whilst Unagi is a glittery blue, Regena Phalange is a matte deep pink and It’s A Moo Point rounds out the colouful palette in black. The product also comes with a mirror emblazoned with the words ‘How You Doin’?’. The brand has also released a four-piece brush set housed in a Central Perk-branded tin. Get yours here.

Deciem announces all of its stores (and website) will close on Black Friday

We have just done something we have never done before. 🙈⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A 23% discount is now available across every product from every brand at DECIEM.com, and at our cosy standalone stores around the world. The saving will be available for the next month, so there really is no need to hurry. ☺️⁣ ⁣⁣ Hyper-consumerism poses one of the biggest threats to the planet, and flash sales can often lead to rushed purchasing decisions, driven by the fear of a sell-out. We no longer feel that Black Friday is an earth or consumer-friendly event, and have therefore decided to close our website and stores for a moment of nothingness on the 29th November. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In previous years, Black Friday at DECIEM meant an opportunity for some of our customers to secure savings across a few products from limited lines. Last year, only 16 products were discounted, everything sold out too quickly, and many of you missed out (we are still sorry). We strongly believe that skincare decisions should be based on education rather than impulse, and hope that a month-long promotion will provide the time for research, reflection, and consideration. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Throughout November (and always), we are deeply committed to ensuring you receive the advice needed to make the best purchasing choices. We continue to offer detailed regimen building guidance here, in-store, via our live chat, and through our contact page (DECIEM.com/contact).⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ P.S. Boring-but-important details can be explored at deciem.com/blackout

Canadian skincare company Deciem has decided to no longer take part in Black Friday – instead, the brand is launching Black(out) Friday, closing all of its stores and temporarily disabling its websites on November 29th. In a release, it says the decision was because the company “no longer feels comfortable being involved in a single day so heavily centered around hyper-consumerism.” Instead, Deciem is offering a 23 per cent discount on all of the products on its website for the month of November to encourage consumers to “shop slowly for their specific concerns and needs.” Abormal, yes, but also highly commendable.
