This was just so wholesome. I need You can take the girl out of Minnesota but can’t take the Minnesota out of this girl shirt. At first, I thought the officers thought this guy was crazy, but the genuine high 5’s at the end just proved they were just all adorable human beings. I accidentally hit a squirrel one time when it ran out in the road. I was devastated knowing I potentially killed something living, so I got out of my car (not a busy road by far) and it was dragging itself to the side of the road with its back half paralyzed.

Pretty sure they all thought I was a nut job! They weren’t able to save him so they had to put him to You can take the girl out of Minnesota but can’t take the Minnesota out of this girl shirt, which of course I felt horrible about, but they reminded me gently that he would have suffered and died slowly if I had just left him there. To answer if I had to pay for putting down the poor little guy, no, I did not. This was back in the late ’90s.

Maybe that had something to do with it? Not sure. They actually thanked me for bringing him in. It was an amazing little vet clinic in a small town in Virginia. Ours is cooked beef with chopped onion, add a can of cream of mushroom and cream of chicken (or two cans of either or if it’s all you got), mix in a couple cans of green beans, and then put it all at the bottom of the baking pan.
