Why did they not start you on a 1x/day low dose?? This just seems a bit bizarre and you have every right to question all of it. Can you seek a second opinion? Ask to see a specialist?

I had high BP with both pregnancies, but my second they knew my history so When They Go Low We Get High Shirt. With my first I swelled some but had no headaches. I never swelled or had headaches with my second. The only way they knew it was high was by taking it manually with the proper cuff. Automatic BP machines didn’t work on me, they always said my BP was perfect.

After my OB saw that, I was not forced to take meds, just to take my BP twice a day and record them. They did not get high at home until the end of my pregnancy and I was induced due to pre-e. But that was not until 38w.
