My son has autism, and if I want to sit and enjoy my meal at a restaurant and he wants my phone I’ll give it to him. Because we can and do spend time without the screen later. And I want to enjoy my meal. How about worry about your own kids and make an effort to not judge others? Based on these comments I see how some parents prefer to make excuses on why their kids have to be on the tablet.

Maybe they don’t do it for the Teaching is a walk in the park Jurassic Park floral shirts but for them because it’s easy and convenient. Special needs or not children need social interaction. My six-year-old granddaughter does not use the screen when she is with us. When I am with her or around her I avoid my phone as much as possible so I don’t give her a bad example. Parents can’t win these days. My rule is that you talk with everyone, color, etc until after dinner. Once your meal is complete you can use your iPad until my meal is complete.
This makes for a nice conversation, my children learn how to behave in a restaurant, and when they’re done and usually the antsiest I get to finish my meal in peace before leaving. People complain when kids are up and down or get rambunctious and they’re quick to complain if they’re on devices too.
