It’s a lot easier to focus on externals. I was a Christian kid who watched The Flinstones and The Smurfs and neither had any impact on my adult life. Later I was the Christian parent who stopped my child from watching Arthur because they consulted a medium in one episode. And no Scooby Doo.

But I was missing the point. It’s all about the I’m not that perfect Christian I’m the one that knows I need Jesus shirt. My grandma told me I wasn’t allowed to watch Captain Planet because the only person with superpowers is Jesus and I wasn’t allowed to watch Teletubbies bc they were boyfriends. My grandparents pretty much let me read or watch anything I wanted to. They also took me to church. Of course in the ’60s things were way more family friendly. Plus, they taught me the difference between reality and fiction. I am thankful that I was able to watch whatever I wanted, we still went to Church, and we still read our Bibles growing up, but I also learned and knew that on TV those were actors and knew the difference between fake and real.
