It just seems like it was a big bother that both of them just never wanted to go through, although they were in effect divorced in their own minds. So yes some people just stay married because it’s too much of a pain in the ass to get divorced legally. I generally don’t consider people evil or wicked, Handmaid’s Tale Blessed be your Christmas shirt, but I might make an exception for this one. She would lock me in an empty room for days at a time without food. She treated me horribly and had me institutionalized when I didn’t completely submit myself to her. The mental hospital was a horrible place for a child. Again I was locked in my room in solitary confinement for most of the day with the only interaction with other children being trying to talk through the ventilation system. Most kids there were really messed up, so I stuck to myself. I didn’t feel that I belonged there, but who would be my advocate?
