Last year, De Kroon met Simone Cipriani, the head of EFI, at Nest’s summit on the handworker economy at the U.N. “I was wearing one of my coats and Simone asked me about it, and when I told him it was made in Afghanistan, he said we had to work together,” she says on a recent call (from Berlin, not the jungle!). The EFI had several ongoing initiatives in Afghanistan in collaboration with its social enterprise partner, Zarif Design, a “slow production” workshop in Kabul founded by Zolaykha Sherzad, who employs 52 local artisans to create garments using traditional fabrics, embroideries, and natural dyes. As to whether these are fakes/knockoff mine was shipped and sold by Amazon, so I doubt if they are fakes. My shirts were made in Haiti according to the tag.
The shirts without washing are somewhat soft. The tailoring is of good quality. IMHO they are the perfect weight. The sleeves keep you warmer indoors. All of the openings are the perfect size. First wash will be in very lukewarm water and very little soap.

I bought these for myself, as I wanted the pretty pink colour, even though, they are intended for men! I bought XL so I could use them with pyjama bottoms I had bought in pink check and they are lovely! They are wide, comfortable, soft and wash well……….happy days. Plus, they’re not that expensive and you get 2 in the pack, so I’ve already bought another pack. They came on Amazon Wardrobe which is a great idea and one I’d recommend, as I wanted them for my holiday. So, they are unisex and like I’ve said, a no-brainer, as they are good value, well made and beautiful shade of pale pink.
