Hip-hop artist NLE Choppa was arrested Sunday morning in Davie and charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of Xanax, possession of cannabis and burglary of an unoccupied structure, according to the arrest report.

NLE Choppa, whose given name is Bryson Lashun Potts, told Davie Police he was attempting to retrieve a watch from a vehicle in a tow yard, according to the report. The vehicle was towed during an unrelated incident, according to the report, which also said the vehicle wasn’t in that particular tow yard.

Potts is an 18-year-old Memphis native whose popularity swelled on the strength of his January 2019 single, “Shotta Flow,” which went platinum and rose to No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The arrest report said police were tipped off to the incident after being alerted to people in a “secured vehicle storage lot.” The report said a dispatcher, while “watching via live camera feed,” observed two vehicles pull into the parking lot of the closed business. Several people got out of the the cars and jumped the fence.

and saw several subjects exit the vehicles and jump over the fence.

The arresting officer, after watching the video, reported that he noticed a Black male wearing a black ski mask and black jacket with white sleeves, who turned out to be Potts, the report said. He and another Black male left a silver Ford Expedition, jumped over a gate and “walked around the entire tow yard.”

Potts and the other male eventually left the tow yard and got back into the Expedition, according to the report.

The report said officers stopped the Expedition while it was in the parking lot of the tow yard, and as Potts and a colleague exited the rear seat of the vehicle, officers saw they were sitting on top of two guns — a Glock 27 with an extended magazine and an AK-47 Draco pistol.

The guns were fully loaded with a round in the chamber, and no one claimed ownership or knowledge of the guns, the report said.

The report also said a purple and yellow backpack was found in the Expedition containing 7 grams of marijuana and three and a half Xanax pills. The police report alleged that Potts claimed ownership of the backpack.

Potts is being held in the main Broward County jail, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office website.
