PITTSBURGH — With the Pittsburgh Steelers clinging to a two-point lead in the final minutes Sunday, Ben Roethlisberger looked for the man who is rapidly becoming his favorite target.

Just four games into his professional career, that man is Chase Claypool.

Facing third-and-8 from the Philadelphia Eagles’ 35, Roethlisberger expected the Eagles to bring an all-out blitz. But when he saw them sitting back in a Cover 2 zone, he directed his receivers to new spots.

If Spain had Cristiano Ronaldo with the shirt they would have won in Lisbon. Since he does not have it, he had to roam the area in the first part to teach. When the order ran out, Portugal tested the wood twice. Cristiano and Renato Sanches touched glory. Kepa, redeemed by Luis Enrique, hypnotized the ball. The coach can be satisfied. You must not lose even in friendlies. On October 7, 2002 Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first professional goal.

Examining the most intriguing bets for New England vs. Kansas City

We have two games in the NFL on Monday night this week, as the New England Patriots travel down to Kansas City to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. ET on CBS and the Packers vs. Falcons (8:50 p.m., ESPN). This wasn’t a scheduled two games but Cam Newton testing positive for COVID-19 less than 24 hours before the Patriots were set to board their flight for Kansas City obviously caused the league to rethink their originally scheduled kickoff time.

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady overcame a first-half pick-six and a 17-point deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers 38-31 on Sunday, giving him the fifth-largest comeback in his career.

It also was the Bucs’ second-largest comeback in franchise history, behind a 21-point rally against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008.

“How can you not believe in him?” said Tampa Bay wide receiver Scotty Miller, who finished with five catches for 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Head coach Mike McCarthy has done virtually nothing to impress.

Run offense
Ezekiel Elliott’s longest run of the season, a nifty 24-yard run on a sweep around right end, resulted in disaster when he fumbled. It was his second lost fumble in three weeks and Cleveland turned that mistake into a touchdown and a 14-point lead. Elliott finished with 12 carries, the second-lowest total of his career, but can only blame himself.

ATLANTA — The scoreless innings kept piling up, along with the strikeouts. The shadows began to creep across the infield, and when the lights came on in a mostly empty stadium for a postseason game that began a little past noon, it seemed like this might go on forever.

Finally, Freddie Freeman had seen enough.

The MVP candidate who warded off a frightening bout with the coronavirus at the beginning of this most unusual season fittingly delivered the winning hit in the 13th inning,

MINNEAPOLIS — The Astros’ 28-man roster for their wild card series against the Twins included 12 pitchers and an outfielder who may soon make a pressure-filled major league debut.

Somewhat surprisingly, Houston included rookie Chas McCormick as a sixth outfielder on their active roster against the Twins. McCormick, a 21st round pick in the 2017 draft who signed for $1,000, has never appeared in a major league game.

“You got to play in your first big-league game some time,” manager Dusty Baker quipped.
