Satirist P.J. O’Rourke, panelist on NPR’s ‘Wait…Wait Don’t Tell Me,’ dies at 74

Author, journalist and political satirist P.J. O’Rourke has died. O’Rourke wrote more than twenty books about a range of topics, from politics to cars, and he was a longtime panelist on the NPR show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!.

According to his publisher, Grove Atlantic, O’Rourke passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer. He was 74.

Biden tells U.S. citizens to leave Ukraine, saying military wouldn’t rescue them

The U.S. isn’t planning a military operation to help its citizens leave Ukraine, President Biden says, and they should do so on their own. “American citizens should leave now,” Biden said as Russia amasses a military force around its neighbor.

Biden made the remarks in an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, who asked him what kind of scenarios would prompt a U.S. rescue mission, if Russia invaded.

The third time was a charm for Mikaela Shiffrin.

There was no medal in Friday’s super-G, the third event raced at these Winter Games for the Edwards local, but there was a finish. Most importantly, the Alpine superstar appeared to renew her confidence and rhythm on the slopes, perhaps a more meaningful victory in the long run.

GoFundMe betrays the Canadian truckers

They’ve shut down the convoy’s campaign, reminding us that this is a fight for freedom

Under pressure from the Canadian government, GoFundMe has decided to withhold $9 million of the funds raised by the truckers’ Freedom Convoy ($1 million had already been withdrawn). Instead of automatically reimbursing the donors, though, GoFundMe is giving contributors until February 19 to request a refund.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White to retire after Beijing Games

Snowboard great Shaun White has confirmed he will retire after Beijing 2022.

White, 35, won his first halfpipe gold at Turin 2006 and also took gold at Vancouver 2010 and Pyeongchang 2018. This is his fifth Olympics, but he confirmed at a news conference Saturday this will be his final Games.
