A Giant Of Black Cinema, Melvin Van Peebles Dies At 89

Influential director Melvin Van Peebles died on Tuesday night at home in Manhattan. The 89-year-old director was best known for his independent films Watermelon Man (1970) and Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song (1971).

He was also the father of Mario Van Peebles, with whom he wrote and directed the movie Panther in 1995. The elder Van Peebles told NPR that year he considered that film a history lesson for kids too young to remember the Panthers’

Fashion editor Richard Buckley, the husband of designer Tom Ford, has died at the age of 72, according to a statement issued by representatives of Ford’s eponymous fashion brand.
“It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley,” Ford’s representatives said in the statement sent to CNN Style.
“Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side.

LOS ANGELES — Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch, Carrie Bradshaw’s friend on TV’s “Sex and the City” and its movie sequels, has died, his son announced Tuesday. He was 57.

In defeating the Los Angeles Chargers, 20-17, the Cowboys moved to 1-1 on the season and broke a streak of 34 straight games of only winning when they topped 30 points. It marked the first time to do so since a 27-20 victory over Tampa Bay on Dec. 23, 2018.
